Temperance River State Park is a unique park with a trail that winds along the edge of the Temperance River which flows between the towns of Schroeder and Tofte. Sprawling over 5,000 acres in size, the park has plenty of hiking trails and beautiful scenery including a river gorge and several waterfalls. The main part of the park, along Highway 61, was previously owned by the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Hikers who haven’t been on the trails for a while will be happy to hear that this section of the trail is mostly flat. Topography in the park varies from wet lowland areas to dry upland sites and is reflected in the variety of vegetation. Wildlife sightings are common in the park.
